Without the French we would have lost our Revolutionary war for freedom. They built the Statue of Liberty. It was an ALLIANCE that won WWII. We don't have to let other people tell us what to do. But we should be mature enough to listen to their concerns about what we do.

They are not all moving here. Immigration is largely a product of geography and politics. While poorer people do still want to come here for a better life (just like the Germans, Irish and Italians before them) you don't see any large rush of Japanese, Finnish, English, Spanish, Dutch, Aussies and many more. Just because we have it good, and we DO have it good, doesn't mean the rest of the world had it bad. They don't. In fact, if we were mature enough to look, we might learn a few things from the "rest of the world" that could improve our lives here even more. (Just as they could learn from looking at us on a few issues.)

Go back to the first point. Dissenting views are what makes democracy, especially our democracy healthy. It's better to live with someone who disagrees with you than to live under one voice. Remember Stalin? Pol Pot? Mussolini?

Can't argue with that. One of the problems liberals DO have is that there is a time and place to fight. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance and if we are not prepared to defend our freedom we do not deserve it. However Afghanistan and Iraq are not the same thing by any stretch of the imagination. Of course now that opium and the warlords are back in full swing in Afghanistan anyway, what's the point of braggin' about what we did there?
